Data & methods
Everything on this site comes from data the Care Quality Commission publishes openly. This page says exactly which files, from when, under what licence — and what we deliberately don't do with them.
Sources
| CQC bulk file | Publication used |

Current coverage: 30,497 active adult social care locations (14,877 care homes), of which 23,648 carry a published rating. GP practices, dentists and hospitals are out of scope.
Update cadence — stated honestly
The data on this site is as published by CQC, bulk files of 01–08 Jul 2026, and is refreshed monthly when CQC releases new bulk files. We never claim to be fresher than the files we hold: a rating published after our data window will not appear here until the next refresh. CQC's own site is always the canonical, most current record — every location page links to it.
Licence & attribution
Contains information from the Care Quality Commission, licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. This site is independent analysis and is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, the Care Quality Commission. Ratings are shown verbatim as published, with their publication dates; inspection findings may predate any page on this site.
Method notes
- Ratings are verbatim. The five words CQC uses — Outstanding, Good, Requires improvement, Inadequate, Not yet rated — appear exactly as published, always with the publication date, and flagged in-row when more than three years old.
- Ownership changes are a stated heuristic. We flag a new registration as a likely ownership change when a recently deregistered service of the same type sits at the same postcode (within 120 days). It is an inference from the public record, not a legal record of sale.
- Benchmark denominators are labelled. Rating-mix comparisons use rated services only, and say so on the chart.
What we deliberately don't do
- No scraping. Everything comes from CQC's published bulk files under open licence — never from crawling cqc.org.uk or any proprietary site.
- No personal data. Registered managers and other named individuals in the source files are excluded from our dataset entirely.
- No advice. Nothing here is professional, financial or clinical advice — it is public information, organised.
- No invented scores. We publish CQC's words and counts of them. There is no composite index, star score or ranking of our own making anywhere on this site.
Privacy
This site sets no cookies and runs cookie-free, aggregate page analytics only. If you email us to join the digest or order a pack, we keep your name, organisation and email to deliver what you asked for, and for nothing else; one email and we delete them. Our dataset contains no personal data — named individuals in CQC's files are excluded at import.
